You can opt-out of receiving pre-approval letters from credit cards and insurance companies. Go to https://www.optoutprescreen.com/. Then companies you don’t do business with cannot look at your credit report without your permission. You will have the option to opt-in, opt-out for 5 years or opt-out for good. It takes about two minutes to complete.
One of the key pieces of information needed is your address, meaning if you move, you will need to do this again. To opt-out for good, you fill out the form online and then mail the form to them. Opting out of pre-approvals will not stop you from applying for new credit, it means you control the process.
